The Pitchfork lineup is pretty solid, and the gargantuan Lollapalooza roster is about what you'd expect, but at both those festivals there's one genre that's conspicuous in its absence. Where's the METAL? (I'll give Pitchfork points for Boris, but Lolla doesn't get any closer than the Toadies and Nine Inch Nails--and that's not very close at all.)

Well, there's quite a lot of metal in Milwaukee on July 26, when Milwaukee Metalfest celebrates its 20th anniversary with a lineup that includes the Black Dahlia Murder, Kataklysm, and Vader. That's not all, either: the midwest was fertile ground for an upstart metal fest, thanks in no small part to the long-simmering controversy associated with MMF promoter Jack Koshick (he's not involved with this year's event), and Indianapolis stepped up to the plate in 2007. The second installment of the Indianapolis Metal Fest is on September 26 and 27, and a fairly promising lineup has already been confirmed, including Kittie, Skeletonwitch, Psyopus, the bravely named Dew-Scented, and local heroes the Gates of Slumber.

So mark those down on your calendar now. Between the two of 'em, you ought to be able to fulfill your summer quota for band T-shirts with unreadable logos.

You forgot this weekend's Central Illinois Metal Fest! Check out http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti... for the awesome neigh-decipherable flyer. Looks like Malevolent Creation canceled though, bummer.
