Is there such a thing as too much bacon? I know some would say "never," but after two trips to Bluebird I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong: this new Bucktown wine bar/gastropub/hoo-ha (next to Hot Chocolate) is a pretty nice place. It's low key and affordable, unless you go nuts and decide to order too much cheese. It's not very sceney--both times I was, if not the most fashionable person there, at least the most dressed, in that I wasn't wearing cargo shorts, flip-flops, and a ratty t-shirt. The wine list is divided into silly categories by climate, but the wine is good. And the beer list is awesome. But when four out of five things on the menu involve some sort of cured pork product, you've gotta wonder: what are they hiding there under all that smoke and salt?

Not to be difficult but...how come I know more about the way people are dressed here than the food? Can we have a hint?

The wait staff couldn't be any more snooty and the beer prices are marketed up so high it's a joke. good luck staying in business!

I think Bluebird is a nice addition to the neighborhood, the scene is hip, the food was awesome, and just the overall feel of the place takes to somewhere else! Not the same ol, same ol new thing for six months in Chicago.

the wine was decent, but the wine menue was poorly constructed and not held together all that well. we tried to order the wild mushroom flatbread but were told to order the arugula, pine nut, cherry tomato one instead because the mushroom one was not great and i don't even wanna know what the mushroom version tasted like if the one we had was supposed to be 10 times better. it was dry and lacking in flavor. the portion of mussels i got was outrageous and almost unnecessary and my boyfriend enjoyed his braised pork.

overall, not worth it.
