Dan Shumski, a freelance journalist for publications from the Washington Post to the Reader, turns out to be the David Sedaris of farmers' markets. His diverting blog Fruit Slinger chronicles his days peddling blueberries, cherries, and strawberries--something of a disappointment this year--at the Lincoln Square market (Tuesdays), the Green City market (Wednesdays and Saturdays), and sometimes the Wicker Park market (Sundays). Wouldn't you know it, those stroller pushers and hemp-bag-carriers can be awfully rude sometimes--you cheer for the guy when someone treats him with courtesy. But the blog's far from being a bitch fest; there are also recipes, reflections on preserving (and its surfeits), fabulous fruit porn. This is the best way I've found to enjoy summer from an office cubicle.
