On the first Friday of every month Julia Mayer, a long-time member of the Chicago dance community, opens her practice studio at Links Hall (3435 N. Sheffield) for an informal public performance called "Coffee Dance." (It's a morning program and guests are encouraged to bring their own brew). This Friday, September 5, marks the end of the summer break and the start of a new season. Mayer will start the 20-minute program, which includes improvisational dance, meditation, and journal readings, at 9:30 AM. You can stick around afterward to talk with her. A Links Hall spokeswoman says Mayer may incorporate audience participation this season, so be prepared to unlock the day's dance. All ages are welcome.
