The Greenheart Shop, whose fair-trade tiffin was featured in our recent gift guide, hosts its annual holiday benefit tonight from 5 to 8 PM, during which there'll be free vegan-friendly, gluten-free chocolates from Kallari Rainforest Chocolate, organic wine from South Africa, and live music by local Latin guitar and percussion duo Clave Suave. Twenty percent of sales go to the Chicago Fair Trade organization. November 26th - 2:26 p.m.
Friday at 6 PM, Taste Food & Wine will be sampling out beers from the Flossmoor Station brewery as well as four winter reds: Twisted Oak grenache, Vina Robles Red 4, Tobin James Ballistic zinfandel, and Ecluse cabernet sauvignon.

Tonight's Rock the Runway fashion show in Wicker Park features free plonk from Black Swan and a list of models plucked from the local music scene, including Rebecca Crawford of the Dials (title holder of best Dan the Fan story) and Monika Bukowska of Brilliant Pebbles (who rocks some inspired fashion of her own). Tyler Colman, the subject of a recent column by Reader food critic Mike Sula, published his first book two months ago on the subjects he knows best: wine and, to a lesser degree, politics. Tonight "Dr. Vino" will be signing copies of Wine Politics: How Governments, Environmentalists, Mobsters and Critics Influence the Wines We Drink, which looks at the battles surrounding the bottles, at Sam's Wines & Spirits in Lincoln Park (1720 N. Marcey) from 5 to 7 PM. August 11th - 10:49 a.m.
Arnie Morton's original downtown location (1050 N. State) is serving up complimentary wine, cheese, and mini steak sandwiches in the bar from 6 to 7 PM the second Tuesday of every month starting tomorrow. The wine and cheese will vary each month. This Tuesday's offerings include Whitehall Lane Cabernet from Napa Valley, Gypsy Dancer Pinot Noir from Oregon, and Muenster, Swiss, and cheddar cheeses. Call 312-266-4820 or click here for more.

Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Lush Wine and Spirits in Roscoe Village (2232 W. Roscoe, 773-281-8888) hosts a free tasting of cheeses from the Dallas-based Mozzarella Company, which specializes in fresh mozzarella but also makes mascarpone, ricotta, queso fresco, feta, and queso Oaxaca (sometimes called Mexican mozzarella). Company owner Paula Lambert will be on hand to talk about the cheeses, which will be paired with wines.
May 30th - 12:24 p.m.
Saturday from 6:30-8:30 PM, Taste Food and Wine in Rogers Park hosts a free tasting of Partida Tequila, with margaritas as well as samples of the blanco, reposado, and anejo tequilas. At the same time in the Loop, Pastoral offers a free tasting of their picks for summer picnic wines. |
