By the logic of Cook County politics, it makes perfect sense. Republican state’s attorney candidate Tony Peraica is vowing to use his independence to put away criminals and fight political corruption, so of course it was just revealed that he accepted $2,700 in contributions a couple years back from several felons. His Democratic opponent, Anita Alvarez, has promised to bring the office a fresh perspective--integrity--even though she’s worked in it for 20 years; she's been under fire for taking donations from prosecutors who'd report to her if she were elected, and from at least one attorney whose firm reaped millions in a lawsuit against the county.
Peraica returned his scrutinized money; Alvarez kept hers, brushing off conflict-of-interest allegations.
Alvarez was mostly quiet about the controversies. Naturally, Peraica tried to rally his supporters to battle.
This time, though, he didn’t storm the county building.
“Predictably, Alvarez attacked us for taking some minuscule (about $2,700 total) contributions—during past campaigns—from individuals who later ran afoul of the law,” he wrote in an e-mail to supporters.
“Fair enough. A candidate for State's Attorney should avoid even the appearance of impropriety—so we are returning those contributions in question.
“But we now challenge Alvarez to return her tens of thousands of dollars in "conflict of interest" campaign cash. Will she do it? We bet she doesn't - and, in the process, proves that she is little more than a political insider out to defend the status quo.
“WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY TO RESPOND TO THESE ATTACKS.
“Please read the following stories and add your comments in the comments section ... or consider writing a letter to the editor. Tell your fellow citizens that Tony is doing the right thing—and that Anita needs to come clean with her questionable campaign cash.”
The email then provides links to stories in the Trib, SouthtownStar, and Illinois Review, a right-of-center blog.
But I’m not sure enough troops responded to the call-up—at least not the ones he was hoping for.
“Commissioner Peraica is a selfish, self-absorbed politician,” a commenter named RedPickUpTruck wrote on the Illinois Review site. “I'm a conservative GOP who supported Commissioner Peraica for County Board but he has lost it. He likes the attention of taking on the machine but cares none for fixing it. He needs to go away.”

Well, mick, as you, of all people, should know, anyone can claim to be anyone.
For a self-proclaimed "..conservative GOP who supported Commissioner Peraica for County Board...", calling himself "RedPickUpTruck", to then state, concerning Peraica, "He needs to go away." leads me to believe that this fellow either isn't a Republican or is one of the many Republicans in cahoots with the Democratic stealing machine.
What is more intriguing is the answer to this question:
What is your agenda?
Besides pretending to not have an agenda?
Anita Alvarez= pro Daley corruption
Anita Alvarez= pro-coverup to protect machine interest.
Anita Alvarez = Recruited by Daley out of law school.
Anita Alvarez =helped Daley setup Miram Santos,by covering up records, and evidence,to protect Daley
Anita Alvarez headed the public Corruption unit of the States Attorney's office and never convicted any clout heavy people or even members of organized crime.
Under Anita evidence in Mob murder cases disappeared. The FBI had to come to Chicago and suburbs to do her job.
VOTE AGAINST DALEY, VOTE FOR PERAICA!
Wake up Cook County!
I heard he (Clifford) has one regarding a dog bite (which the County could of beat) and mauling and death (no wrongdoing by the County though) gave the dead woman's estate 36 million.
The Girl X case that Anita Alvarez prosecuted became a tort against the CHA that Alvarez gave Clifford all of the Discovery and again Clifford mades tens of millions of dollars.
Don't forget that Bob Clifford made the largest settlement ever against 69 West Washington and the fire and the deaths and injuries even though there was criminal liability issues there and again it was defended at least initially by the State's Attorney (although in this case outside counsel that is also politically connected).
This is white collar crime and fraud.
This is why there needs to be tort reform.
I am not unsympathetic to those who die in accidents but why is it that some get nothing and some get a lot of money for their estate (and lawyers) if it is the government that we the taxpayers must pay for.
Bob Clifford is becoming super rich man off of our taxes while services are being cut and taxes are going up.
Much of Cook County is a 3rd world country and one man (Clifford and assorted legal friends and no minorities) are making a ton of money.
Anita Alvarez should give back the money from Clifford because there is a conflict of interest (because she has to defend law suits he brings) and he is involved in criminal cases (he was the lawyer for indicted Chris Kelly of Rezko and Blagojevich fame) it violates the County Ethics ordinance.
Anita Alvarez should also give back the money from her subordinates, the people she manages as that is a conflict of interest, it violates the ethics ordinance (which she is supposed to enforce) and is against the law in other government agencies like the Water Reclamation District where the Commissioners had to give the money back and forbidden from soliciting and possibly even taking donations.
Anita Alvarez should give back the money from her employees and should of never taken it in the first place.
I have no problem with Bob Clifford making money, just not off of our backs as taxpayers when we have the highest sales tax in the nation and he got 100 million for his clients (which he got 40% of plus costs so possibly 50 million)for the criminality of Elzie Higgimbottom and the political management of 69 West Washington a possible fire to destroy documents and other errors of politics. Bob Clifford is increasing our taxes and becoming rich off of our backs.
I have no problem with Bob Clifford being involved in politics but he should not give tens of thousands of dollars to someone he is suing and cutting deals to make money from taxpayers.
I just KNEW you couldn't hold back much longer on that "...to the first degree..." mumbo jumbo, mister 'to the first degree'.
As for "Say one thing.... Do another", that's the Daley motto.
I'll bet that's tattooed on the mayor's ass.
Is it, mister 'to the first degree'?
I ask, because you, of all people, would know.
This is for us....

You forgot to add '...to the first degree!!!' to your little vomit spurt.
When is it, again, that your visa expires?

But NO.
Tony will save the day, By giving his cowardly son free legal help & expunge more of his serious criminal records, While making the other innocent victims suffer & get awash in their medical bills, etc.
THAT'S the Tony Peraica way.
Shhhhhhhhhh, He doesn't want you people to know that.
http://www.wsmv.com/news/17063986/detail.html
Well, miss 'to the first degree', I finally figured out why you don't need your visa renewed.
That 'marriage of convenience' has worked out for you.
I guess that means that you won't be deported back to Schmucklevania anytime soon.
One good thing, though, is that you're way past your child bearing years.
THAT'S the Tony Peraica style of politics.
Oh, yes. The Peraica apologists retorting & belittling ANYBODY who doesn't agree with their twisted logic, Masquerading as political do-gooders, Whilst mocking the meek novices behind closed doors.
"I hope that the FBI & CIA are looking into your INS name disguise, What a coward you are posing as an INS official."
Don't worry, little green card whore.
The fact that the consummation of your arranged marriage was through your back door won't affect your resident alien status.
Like the military, all branches of the Federal government have a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy now.
Just remember that sensation every time you post here.
It's the least you can do.
The phrase is 'fuck off', not "fug off".
That's fuck, F U C K.
At least learn to spell, since you insist on fighting deportation.
You keep forgetting to close with "...to the first degree".
What's wrong, don't you like the phrase anymore?

"Off Topic, but this comment needs to be placed where it can be read by all your readers.
Your contract:
Please do not fall for the gimmicks being offered to buy your "loyalty," such as new color schemes for our squads, new Tahoes, etc. The city can find money for this stuff, but cannot find money for your contract?
Come on guys and gals, wake up!
What is wrong with our current color scheme? How much is it going to cost to redo all the Department's vehicles?
Recently, an Order came out wherein Overtime for CAPS was canceled. I'm sure soon you will see all Overtime canceled, because of the budget, except for court related Overtime.
But, the Department keeps creating new positions.
Just announced, a Personal Assistant position was assigned to the Bureau of Strategic Deployment.
Come on people! A Personal Assistant!
In addition to the new Personal Assistant, the Bureau of Strategic Deployment has a Deputy Superintendent, an Assistant Deputy Superintendent, a Chief of Homeland Security, and a Deputy Chief of Homeland Security.
The Department has 2 CAPS Exempts: Chief of CAPS, and the Director of CAPS Implementation, who by the way, should be in jail because of his involvement with the GD's.
Why do we need 2 Exempts doing essentially the same thing?
We have a Superintendent's Policy Group. Why can't Research and Development handle policy suggestions; after all, policy falls under their purvue.
In IAD, there is a Chief, and a Director of Investigations, which will soon be filled by another FBI Special Agent who recently retired.
Look at the Personnel Division, a civilian heads Personnel now. Also, the Department has a Director of Marketing; again, isn't this a responsibility of Research and Development?
If these new spots and some existing spots were eliminated, think of the savings that could be used for your contract. At the very least, you are talking about 2 million dollars.
Let me talk about morale. They want you to be aggressive, yet you are told you will be fired if you disclose an illegal aliens status.
They have already proven that they will go after you in other ways if the Cook County justice system doesn't suffice.
Also, they tell you they have your back, but what does the Supt do, he hires an FBI Special Agent to be Director of Investigations in IAD.
What message is this sending?
Nepotism. The Supt said at one of his first meetings that he was going to eliminate clout on the job, but what does he do, he hires his Best Man, and another Fed, and now another Fed.
If you really need these positions, how about filling them with officers from within our ranks.
You mean that you couldn't find people qualified within our ranks instead of going outside the Department. A slap in your faces.
Outsiders: Deputy Superintendent of Professional Standards, Chief of Homeland Security, Director of Investigations for IAD, Director of Marketing, Director of Petrsonnel.
Not one person within our ranks is qualified to fill these spots?
Getting rid of good bosses before you even got to know them.
Hiram Grau - had the trust of the rank and file - was part of the Violence Reduction Initiatives that worked!
John Risley - knew how to handle major events - also part of the Violence Reduction Initiatives that worked.
Michael Chasen - like him or not, he was the right man for police shootings.
George Rosebrock - held 019 up to standards.
Yes the other dumps were on target: Kohlman - O'Donnell - Chizewski.
How about the fact that the Cmdr of Management and Labor Affairs was inept but was laterally moved.
M. Bonds. Terrible representative of the Department. Has done more damage than good.
Manpower. How about assigning SWAT members to Districts on all three watches. Provide them with cell phones. If a call comes out, you already have SWAT personnel working who can respond from their assigned Districts within minutes.
More manpower and less time waiting for SWAT to assemble.
Time Due. Watch Commanders are looking at your activity to base whether or not to approve your time off. They are playing favorites as well.
Guys and Gals, this is just a few things you need to look at.
Keep doing what you are doing. It is not worth loosing your job.
To the FOP, you should seriously look at a no-confidence vote.
