If you want to see the Dead Zone, better hurry up.
The Dead Zone is, of course, the far northeastern corner of Bensenville, roughly 15 percent of the town. Using immense powers at the state, local and federal levels, Mayor Daley seized control of almost all the property there in order to plow it over and build a new runway and air control tower for O'Hare Airport.
Yesterday DuPage County Judge Kenneth Popejoy gave Daley the green light to begin demolition, ruling that there is no apparent environmental danger from tearing down the property. The city hopes to bring in the bulldozers as soon as possible, says Rosemarie Andolino, who oversees the mayor's O'Hare expansion program.
You might wonder why Mayor Daley would be so eager to proceed with a project for which there is no apparent funding or need, now that rising fuel costs have crippled the airline industry.
Well, I'm totally with Mayor Daley on this one. When I was about eight, I used to like to smash sand castles just for the fund of watching them fall. I mean, what's the fun of being an all-powerful mayor if you can't run people out of their community and demolish their homes?
In his ruling, Popejoy noted that more than 500 buildings in the Dead Zone are vacant and he called them an "eyesore."
I'm going to have to disagree with the judge about this. There's nothing ugly about the Dead Zone. In fact, I find it a little -- oh, what's the word? -- stirring to stand on the quiet streets amidst the boarded-up, vacant houses and contemplate the tremendous political power it represents.
I suggest Judge Popejoy amend his ruling and force Mayor Daley to keep the buildings standing until -- or if -- the city ever has the money it needs to build the stuff it wants to build.
In the meantime, state senator James Meeks should lead bus tours (but not bike rides) of children from Chicago's chronically broke public school system so they can see firsthand how their government spends its money.

It is so very appropriate that Daley and Bush are both in China, gushing over how impressed they are with the way in which the Chinese government has managed, through it's absolute dictatorship, to bring the Olympics to their country.
So very appropriate.
I LOVE IT!
With all the talk about Daley's dream of getting the 2016 Olympics, where is the concern for the dreams and aspirations of the rest of this city and county's citizens?
The whore media promotes this enrichment scheme of Daley's as if it's going to magically improve every citizen's life, and not just the chosen few who will reliably stuff themselves feeding at the taxpayer financed trough.
Do the folks on the west and south sides of this city really believe that their neighborhoods have been earmarked for the 2016 Olympics to help them improve their lives?
Please.
Why do these citizens think that their neighborhoods have been neglected for, say, the last 20+ years?
Neglected, that is, until the property values rose, and the real estate speculators began to cash in on the housing boom of the past 10 years. THEN those streets got fixed, sidewalks, sewer and water lines replaced, etc.....
Are the residents of the west and south sides really so gullible, really so stupid as to believe that this 'dream' of the mayor, and his associates, has ANYTHING to do with improving these areas for the PRESENT RESIDENTS?
Wake up, west and south side residents.
The bulldozers are headed YOUR way.
Practically EVERYTHING they've done, are doing and plan to do, has been, is, and will be on the backs of the present and future taxpayers.
It's ALL a Ponzi Scheme, set up to put off until 'tomorrow' paying through the nose for what little they do for the common taxpayers of today.
The ONLY 'good' thing these cretins can ever do is to 'do an old man stroger'.
TODAY would not be soon ebough.
The Mayor of Chicago rapes the taxpayers of Chicago, than claims a that there is $400,000,000.00 short. He than blames the Union City Worker , who helped him get elected. Wake up Chicago and Union City Workers, this guy makes Al Capone look like a Alter Boy!
$25 million dollars Buckingham Fountain.
$8 million dollars River walk
$500 million dollars Olympics
$ 18 billion Dollars O'Hare Expansion.
Than you say your Budget for 2009 is $400 million dollars short?
Who did you blame on this Budget problem?
The Union City Worker?
When Mayor Richie Daley was a kid , I'll bet when Old Man Daley asked " Who didn't flush the toilet?" Little Mayor Richie, who just walked out of the washroom in front of the old man, would say " it was Johnny dad!"
Daleys in order of intelligence:
1) Bill (by default)
2) Michael (knows he's dumb so he doesn't say much)
3) Rich (he's not John)
4) John (used as a human kickball as a boy)
He is doing us a favor by removing white trash homes that are just a step above trailer park status.
I think you have Bensenville confused with Bridgeport.
I shouldn't complain about Daley, because I was once a Daley loyalist.
Your wrong. You talk allot of bull-shit. Have you ever driven out to the area in Bensenville Daley wants to use for the Airport?
It doesn't even line up to the runway. It going to be used for Daley's friends and family to build Condo's and restuarants in that are.....just like Rosemont!
The company’s lobbyists include former Ald. Mark Fary (12th), husband of O’Hare expansion chief Rosemarie Andolino.
All of the Daley's MOB makes money off the Taxpayers!
Head of OMP Rose Andolino's husband Mark Fary, was on than State senator Tim Degnan's Staff. I wonder what favors the Degnan's get from Rosie??
Earlier this year, another Chicago alderman, Ambrosio Medrano, became the first City Council member to be buried by the Silver Shovel investigation. He pleaded guilty to extortion for taking $31,000 in bribes to help secure illegal dump sites for Mr. Christopher's company in black and Hispanic neighborhoods.
Who was the Alderman that gave the permitts for the illegal dump sites? The minority Alderman went to jail, but the White Alderman that OK'd the Enviormental permitts ,did not.
That Alderman was Rosie Andolino's Husband, EX-Alderman and former Tim Dignan aid- MARK FARY!
So to have Rosie say everything is OK in Bensenville, kind of makes you wonder.
cucu is an idiot.hiz the one that threatened capparelli banks deleo and silvestri.hiz the one dat ratted out banks & deleo too.good thing annunzio & marzullo are dead or dis jealous wannabe would go after dem too.avila better watch out.cucu could get confused wit da vowel.

"Off Topic, but this comment needs to be placed where it can be read by all your readers.
Your contract:
Please do not fall for the gimmicks being offered to buy your "loyalty," such as new color schemes for our squads, new Tahoes, etc. The city can find money for this stuff, but cannot find money for your contract?
Come on guys and gals, wake up!
What is wrong with our current color scheme? How much is it going to cost to redo all the Department's vehicles?
Recently, an Order came out wherein Overtime for CAPS was canceled. I'm sure soon you will see all Overtime canceled, because of the budget, except for court related Overtime.
But, the Department keeps creating new positions.
Just announced, a Personal Assistant position was assigned to the Bureau of Strategic Deployment.
Come on people! A Personal Assistant!
In addition to the new Personal Assistant, the Bureau of Strategic Deployment has a Deputy Superintendent, an Assistant Deputy Superintendent, a Chief of Homeland Security, and a Deputy Chief of Homeland Security.
The Department has 2 CAPS Exempts: Chief of CAPS, and the Director of CAPS Implementation, who by the way, should be in jail because of his involvement with the GD's.
Why do we need 2 Exempts doing essentially the same thing?
We have a Superintendent's Policy Group. Why can't Research and Development handle policy suggestions; after all, policy falls under their purvue.
In IAD, there is a Chief, and a Director of Investigations, which will soon be filled by another FBI Special Agent who recently retired.
Look at the Personnel Division, a civilian heads Personnel now. Also, the Department has a Director of Marketing; again, isn't this a responsibility of Research and Development?
If these new spots and some existing spots were eliminated, think of the savings that could be used for your contract. At the very least, you are talking about 2 million dollars.
Let me talk about morale. They want you to be aggressive, yet you are told you will be fired if you disclose an illegal aliens status.
They have already proven that they will go after you in other ways if the Cook County justice system doesn't suffice.
Also, they tell you they have your back, but what does the Supt do, he hires an FBI Special Agent to be Director of Investigations in IAD.
What message is this sending?
Nepotism. The Supt said at one of his first meetings that he was going to eliminate clout on the job, but what does he do, he hires his Best Man, and another Fed, and now another Fed.
If you really need these positions, how about filling them with officers from within our ranks.
You mean that you couldn't find people qualified within our ranks instead of going outside the Department. A slap in your faces.
Outsiders: Deputy Superintendent of Professional Standards, Chief of Homeland Security, Director of Investigations for IAD, Director of Marketing, Director of Petrsonnel.
Not one person within our ranks is qualified to fill these spots?
Getting rid of good bosses before you even got to know them.
Hiram Grau - had the trust of the rank and file - was part of the Violence Reduction Initiatives that worked!
John Risley - knew how to handle major events - also part of the Violence Reduction Initiatives that worked.
Michael Chasen - like him or not, he was the right man for police shootings.
George Rosebrock - held 019 up to standards.
Yes the other dumps were on target: Kohlman - O'Donnell - Chizewski.
How about the fact that the Cmdr of Management and Labor Affairs was inept but was laterally moved.
M. Bonds. Terrible representative of the Department. Has done more damage than good.
Manpower. How about assigning SWAT members to Districts on all three watches. Provide them with cell phones. If a call comes out, you already have SWAT personnel working who can respond from their assigned Districts within minutes.
More manpower and less time waiting for SWAT to assemble.
Time Due. Watch Commanders are looking at your activity to base whether or not to approve your time off. They are playing favorites as well.
Guys and Gals, this is just a few things you need to look at.
Keep doing what you are doing. It is not worth loosing your job.
To the FOP, you should seriously look at a no-confidence vote.

As for runways, the Bensenville portion of the project will not have new runways on it. However, in order to fit in all of the runways that the city wants, both Irving Park Road and several railroad lines will have to be shifted south. These corridors will use the land formerly occupied by the neighborhood in question.
"You needed the Environmental Committee to Approve all Dumping Permits."
According to Frias' attorney, David Stetler, the freshman legislator
quickly regretted his dishonesty. He refused to take any more money and
tried to fend off Christopher by raising the possibility of accepting a
large campaign contribution 18 months later when he planned a run for
Congress, Stetler told jurors in opening remarks earlier this week.
Prosecutors Scott Lassar and Jonathan Bunge, though, have charged that
Frias really was trying to extort an additional $25,000 from
Christopher.
Frias was introduced to Christopher by a trusted colleague, then-Ald.
Ambrosio Medrano, who by then had pocketed $9,000 in bribes from
Christopher and Sofia. Medrano ended up taking $31,000 in payoffs.
"He's just looking to have an ear and a friend. Uh, he's been very good
with me," Medrano, who later pleaded guilty, was quoted as saying in a
transcript of the conversation. "Uh, the only thing he'd like to see
is that, like, when he picks up the phone and he asks you to do
something, uh, that we at least try."
At the luncheon meeting three days later, Frias offered to help Sofia
find a site in the 12th Ward for a rock-crushing operation.
According to the transcript, Frias urged quick action before Mark Fary,
then the 12th Ward's alderman, left office in a few months. Fary
happened to head the City Council's Environment Committee and could grease
approval for any rock-crushing site in the ward, Frias suggested.
"Right now, it's my guy," Frias said of Fary's pivotal role.
Frias then laid out for Sofia his ambitious political plans to unseat
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, have his brother replace him in the state
legislature and keep control of the ward as the Democratic committeeman.
"It's a dirty game," Frias said of politics, prompting Sofia to point
out that Frias may look like "a clean-cut guy, but you're a dirty son of
a bitch. I know that already."
And the SAME Pate Philip who was opposed to a light rail terminal connecting the DuPage towns with Chicagoland towns, Especially Chicago....Because he said & I QUOTE......"It'll Bring In The Niggers"????????.
